  • Posted on September 6, 2011 at 12:06 am

I posted this before but due to lack of answers I think I may of put it in the wrong category, so I’ll try again.

I’m staying with a friend who has an alcohol problem, and I’ve noticed she very rarely urinates, which is weird in itself and also complains about backpain and I’m just worried she’s messing up her kidneys with the alcohol abuse, am I right or does it sound like something else?

Should a psychiatrist write a prescription for alcohol abuse during the first visit?

  • Posted on September 6, 2011 at 12:02 am

I went today with my girlfriend to the psychiatrist in order to get help with her substance abuse disorder. Alcohol to be specific. To make the story short, basically he told her that indeed she has an addiction with alcohol and she has a big problem but he didn’t prescribed anything and gave her another appointment in a week?? Shouldn’t he prescribe something? Should I be worried?
I was hoping that he prescribed something like Naltrexone (Revia) Disulfiram (Antabuse) or Topiramate (Topamax)

Can anyone help me with an idea of what inpatient alcohol abuse treatment might cost with VA benefits?

  • Posted on September 5, 2011 at 4:52 am

I want to get my father to go into a treatment facility. Cost is a factor. He is a three-and-a-half-year veteran in the Navy and so a Veterans Administration hospital seems to be logical.

Private inpatient programs seem to cost over ,000 (30-day program). Does anyone know what it might cost at the VA hospital? My father is 67 and draws about ,700 a month from Social Security and other sources.

Thank you.
